What should fruit trees be sprayed with?

Dormant spray, or dormant oil, is a horticultural oil that kills overwintering scale insects, mealybugs, mites, aphids, and other pests on the bark. The oil has either a mineral (petroleum) or plant base. One application of dormant spray for fruit trees per year, or less, is typical. An important time to spray apple trees is during the dormant season. Spraying at this time can help prevent pests and diseases in the months to come.

When should fruit trees be sprayed?

Timing is critical, with a first spray about two weeks after most petals have fallen from the tree’s blossoms, followed by a second spray one or two weeks later. Repeat this treatment in late July or early August or whenever you notice new larval holes appearing on the fruit.

These general purpose fungicides should always be used when the daytime temperatures are steadily around 60 degrees F. (15 C). Insecticidal sprays – Use insecticidal spray when the flower petals fall to take care of most fruit tree pests. The only exception to this rule for home use is probably the codling moth.

If you trap codling moths, treat your apples soon after the first flight has begun.
  1. The best time to spray is when most or all of the petals have fallen from the apple blossoms.
  2. Do not treat before this as the sprays will be ineffective and will also kill pollinating bees.
  3. Make a second spray, 7 to 10 days later.

Fruit Tree Application: May :  we want to begin about 10 day after flowers fall. Spray every 4 to 5 weeks . stop spraying 14 days before harvest.

When to fertilize fruit trees: Spring

Once you get into bloom and thereafter, your tree is now using all the nutrients that you applied in your late winter, early spring fertilizer. The roots are taking the nutrients up and they’re distributing into the tree.

Fungicide sprays

Use a fungicidal spray early in the season to eliminate scab disease, such as with peaches. You can wait a bit longer in the spring to use this spray, but do so before the leaves have opened.
